FUTURE JOBS FOR WA
OUR JOBS PLAN FOR AFTER THE BOOM
It’s time for a plan for the future of Western Australia’s workforce.
The jobs boom from the construction of new resource projects is already slowing down. China, by far the biggest consumer of Western Australia’s resources is transitioning from an economy driven by government-led construction to one driven by domestic consumption leading to a lessening of demand.
Unemployment in WA is rising but the Abbott government has no plan for jobs after the boom. Mr Abbott sees WA as nothing more than a quarry that is helping prop up the Australian economy. In fact he is hurting WA workers by seeking to deny WA investment opportunities in renewable energy, cutting the federal public service and funding to many support services throughout our community, and opening loopholes for more 457 visas.
Western Australia is much more than just a mining state. We have the skills and natural advantages to develop a clean energy economy, offer high quality services, pristine agricultural products and innovation to the world..
The Greens vision of a clean, thriving economy beyond the mining boom recognises our future economy will be driven by renewable energy, diverse cutting edge manufacturing, and our construction and services industries building a 21st century Australia.
The Greens have a plan to smooth the bumps of the economic transition as WA inevitably moves away from the old quarry vision and we need to start investing in the jobs of the future.
