There are many substantial economic, social and environmental benefits of infill and urban regeneration along or close to public transport corridors, particularly when it occurs at the precinct level.

 

Our report identified 18, including:

• Protecting the fabric of existing suburbs and bringing new services and amenities closer to existing residents

• Delivering jobs to local areas

• Increasing housing affordability and diversity and creating more vibrant neighbourhoods that accommodate a broader range of lifestyles

• Reducing car dependency and traffic congestion

• Enabling the required critical mass of activity and population to run efficient public transit

• Making more efficient use of existing infrastructure and services

• Diversifying and strengthen local economies

• Embracing the pressing need to regenerate our middle suburbs

• Improving quality of life

• Increase housing affordability and choice,

• Reduce the cost of living and make living in Perth more affordable

• Increase local character and create a stronger sense of place

• Using less energy and water and reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and

• Enabling the preservation of urban bushland and coastal habitats, and urban farmland and productive agricultural areas
