Tony Abbott has announced that a Coalition Government will not fund any urban rail projects. This short-sighted position will limit Western Australia's capacity to grow in a sustainable and liveable form and further entrench our car dependence and urban sprawl, relegating more of us to the daily frustration of traffic congestion and parking woes.

The Greens believe light rail is a component in Perth's future transport network that will make living, working and travelling in Perth a better experience.

It should be complemented with:

• A strategic expansion of our heavy rail system - starting with an airport link

• Making our bus network more accessible and efficient

• Integrating cycling better with public transport

In five years we've gone from a good idea to a serious proposal: now is the time to make it happen. If you want to be part of this campaign, now's the time to get on board.
